The researcher
Giorgi Kavtaradze, PhD
Historian · Research consultant · Scholarly editor
I work across the history of Georgia and the Caucasus, Byzantium and the medieval Black Sea world — and the documentary traditions that connect them.
My practice combines close source criticism, paleography, historical geography and archival methods with editorial judgement.
I have taught history at university level and have experience in academic journal editing. Training in film directing also informs my approach to research for visual storytelling.

In practice
Scholarship that
travels beyond the page.
The same attention to evidence can serve a scholarly manuscript, a documentary or a cultural-heritage project.
Commissioned research and editorial work begin with the intended use, the available sources and a clear account of what the evidence can support.
